BRANT - The County of Brant celebrates National Seniors Day this Friday October 1st.
A ceremony will happen in downtown Paris to honour local seniors and highlight the important role they play in the County of Brant.
Mayor David Bailey comments about the importance seniors have when building the community and helping it blossom.
"Seniors are an invaluable and growing part of our community. Whether they are in the workforce, volunteering or mentoring others, seniors play a profound role in the County. Seniors hold an important part of our history and have contributed generously to building our families, workplaces and communities."
National Seniors Day also promotes awareness of issues that matter to seniors. In 2018, the County of Brant was accepted as a member of the World Health Organization's Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities. The goals of the Network are to create more cities that appreciate people of all ages.
The County of Brant Public Library offers the "Call and Connect Program for Seniors." Seniors can sign up for this free phone-based program and talk about various topics such as genealogy, crafting, games and gardening. To learn more, visit www.brantlibrary.ca.
