A company from Woodstock will have to pay a $70,000 fine after one of their workers suffered a chemical burn.
WOODSTOCK - Bridgestone Canada Inc in Woodstock is going to have to pay a $70,000 fine after a local worker suffered chemical burns at their factory.
The worker suffered the burns on September 14th at the Firestone Textiles Company in Woodstock. They manufacture textile products at the plant.
A technician was injured while trying to dispense sulfuric acid that is used in their lab to conduct tests. The worker was trying to fill a two-litre plastic bottled using an electric pump when the hose nozzle attached to the bottle detached under pressure.
Luckily the worker only suffered minor chemical burns in the spill. However they were exposed to the hazard of injury from contact of skin with acid, a noxious liquid, and they were not wearing the proper safety equipment.
Bridgestone was fined because they failed to ensure that their employee was wearing the proper safety equipment.
