After recently retiring, Wayne Buchanan made the decision to run for council in Norwich Township
NORWICH TOWNSHIP -- A life long resident of Oxford County has filed his papers for Ward 4 in Norwich Township.
Wayne Buchanan recently retired from a 24 year career with a farm equipment manufacturer, spending the last 15 years as the Canadian Sales Manager. He and his family also actively farmed up to 400 acres east of Oxford Centre and owned and operated Buchanan Farm Equipment just south of Woodstock until 1986.
Buchanan hopes to apply of his experiences to a councillor position in Norwich Township. "Having a background in sales I have developed listening skills over the years and I think that is important in government for the representatives to be able to listen to the constituents and take that message on to the level of government they're represented in."
When it comes to the next term of council for the Township, Buchanan says maintaining a strong relationship with Woodstock is one of his priorities. "Make sure we maintain a good neighbourly relationship with him and of course good roads are in there as well. And also senior services, I think, are going to be an issue coming down the pipe as well."
Buchanan has extensive community involvement, serving on the Oxford Centre United Church Board, current Chair of the Friends of the Pioneer Rooms in Oxford Centre, is a committee member for the Oxford County Land Division and Oxford County Woodlot Conservation Appeals - and is an active member of the Norwich Curling Club, International Cockshutt Club and Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association - just to name a few.
