What has been nearly a year in the making will open for business by the end of February
WOODSTOCK - A start date has been set for the Bullwinkles Eatery.
The Salvation Army, Operation Sharing, and the Moose Lodge are prepared to try something that has never been done in the County. Director of Community and Family Services with the Salvation Army, Vanessa Giuliano, provides background information on this project. "Stephen Giuliano of Operation Sharing had some thoughts on a progressive place where people can eat to try and come away from the ordinary soup kitchen idea. He decided to come up with the name of Bullwinkles Eatery, where I would run a culinary school for 6-8 students, for 8 weeks and we would cook for the restaurant."
A pay what you can restaurant, Bullwinkles will serve the community and Giuliano, who is a chef by trade, knows there is still work to do before everything can open. "Tuesday and Thursday that was primarily hosted by Operation Sharing will move to Bullwinkles. There are some things we need to do beforehand, like we need to learn about food handling, so there is a little bit to lead up before we will actually start to cook for folks. The 29th of February is when the restaurant will open that is the date that we are going for."
Beginning on February 8th is when the culinary school will open, and Giuliano says it will be a great addition to the county. "I think it is imperative that we start to integrate our community, there is to much segregation, and that needs to end. We should be able to sit down and enjoy a meal together, that has been prepared by others living in the community as well and that is the whole idea of the venture. I just hope the community will come out and support us and gives us a try." Those looking to help cook for the eatery are being asked to give Vanessa a call at (519) 539-6166, or visit her at the Salvation Army location on Huron Street.
