Local Opera singer Charlotte Burrage pocketed herself $1500 in placing 3rd in Thursday night's Ensemble Studio Competition. The Canadian Opera Company event pitted the top 10 up-and-coming opera singers from across the country. Burrage, a mezzo-soprano, hailing from Sweaburg, was in the final field that started with 146 singers who auditioned. More importantly than the cash, Burrage is competing for a spot in the 2013/2014 COC Ensemble Studio, Canada?s premier training program for young opera professionals. COC artistic staff will now finalize the lineup of the 13/14 Ensemble Studio. That will be announced at a later date. Photo courtesy of Chris Hutcheson.
