Tillsonburg residents are invited to join the Canada United movement by buying, dining and shopping local this weekend. The Canada United campaign was created by RBC as a way to encourage everyone to support local businesses impacted by the pandemic.
TILLSONBURG - The Town of Tillsonburg is excited to celebrate the Canada United Weekend which kicks off tomorrow.
This is a nationwide campaign to support small and local businesses. Tillsonburg residents are invited to join the Canada United movement by buying, dining and shopping local this weekend.
The Canada United campaign, created by RBC and a range of national partners, is designed to support local businesses from coast to coast by offering small business relief grants of up to $5,000 to help businesses with recovery efforts as a result of COVID-19.
Mayor Stephen Molnar says the relief grants will cover expenses related to personal protective equipment (PPE), renovations to accommodate re-opening guidelines and costs for developing or improving e-commerce capabilities.
“The Town of Tillsonburg is pleased to support the Canada United movement to help bolster businesses in our community. Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy and key to thriving communities. Many of these small business owners reside locally. They are our friends, family members or neighbours. I encourage all Tillsonburg residents to safely partake in local
businesses, in a show of support for them during these extraordinary times."
Almost one-third of businesses across Canada have permanently closed due to COVID-19, according to recent RBC research. Many
businesses that stayed open have experienced reduced revenue and ongoing cash flow concerns.
CEO of the Tillsonburg District Chamber of Commerce says it is more crucial than ever to support local business.
“Supporting local business has never been more important and will be critical to moving our local economy forward. The dedicated and hard-working business owners in our community have been hit hard by the economic impact of COVID-19, and need our support now more than ever.”
The Tillsonburg District Chamber of Commerce, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce have all joined Canada United, recognizing the need to kickstart an economic rebound by rallying consumers to support businesses as they re-open during these uncertain times.
