Canadian broadcasting mogul Allan Slaight, who was well known for supporting events such as the Juno Awards and Canadian Music Week, has died at the age of 90.
Allan Slaight, a Canadian media tycoon revered for supporting the country's art scene has passed away at the age of 90.
As reported by the CBC and the Canadian Press, Slaight's death was confirmed by family friend David Ben.
Slaight, who hailed from Galt, Ontario, was a news reporter and radio broadcaster before he took the helm of Global Television in the 1970s.
He then took over Standard Broadcasting Corporation in the 1980s.
In addition to having his own radio broadcasting company, Slaight Communications, he was also an early supporter of the Toronto Raptors and was part owner of the team in the early 1990s.
He was also known for supporting organizations including Canada's Walk of Fame, Hot Docs, Canadian Music Week and the Junos, where awards and funds were named after him.
Slaight was also recognized for his philanthropic efforts through Slaight Music and the Slaight Family Foundation, which have supported numerous charities relating to the arts, health care, at-risk youth and more.
