CASS Presents: The Wedding Singer

A broken hearted wedding singer falls in love with a waitress who is engaged to another man.

WOODSTOCK - Students from College Ave Secondary School (CASS) will bring a classic Adam Sandler film to life on stage.

The Wedding Singer will make its on stage debut on Thursday April 10th with performances also scheduled for the Friday and Saturday.

Hannah Robinet is the head of music and drama at CASS and she's directing this production alongside Jeremy Thackray. She says The Wedding Singer tells the story of Robbie, a wedding singer who had his heart broken after being left at the alter, but his life turns around when he meets Julia, a waitress at the wedding venue.

"They get to know each other and start to have feelings, but unfortunately Julia is about to marry this Wall Street shark Glen! So we're just hoping that these two can find their way back together."

Dexter Straw will bring the character of Robbie to life on stage.

"He's like a hopeless romantic. He's a little bit odd, but I feel really great playing him! It's very natural because I relate to the character a lot and I'm very enthusiastic."

Angie Pettipas-Lizak plays his love interest Julia.

"I can definitely relate to her in some situations because of the shy aspect of it, but when she gets comfortable with someone she's more out there. I am definitely like that as well."

Maddy Miller will play Julia's cousin Holly.

"Holly is very outgoing and out there. She is very flirtatious and is a very outgoing person, which isn't exactly like me. I am very shy person when you first meet me, but I can be more outgoing when you get to know me."

Quinton Wattie will play Robbie's best friend Sammy, the comedic relief of the show.

"It's a blast to play Sammy! He's so outgoing and he's kind of crazy, but it's really fun to play."

Robinet says they have about 80 staff and students involved in this production.

"The students have been working hard for about six months. We started back in November and they rehearse Mondays and Wednesday's after school 5:00 p.m. and over some lunches. So they have been hard at work learning lots of lines, lots of music and lots of choreography."

The show is about two hours and 15 minutes with an intermission. There are four performances scheduled from Thursday April 10th to Saturday April 12th. Tickets are $15 each and they can be purchased online here.
