Council has decided to end their current contract with the Woodstock Soccer Club, because the club can no longer afford to keep it running by themselves.
WOODSTOCK - The city of Woodstock is set to officially take over operations at Cowan Park.
The rec facility is currently owned by the Woodstock Soccer Club, but they can no longer afford to keep it running.
Director of Finance Colin McIlveen says the club will still have first dibs when it comes to renting the soccer fields in the summer and the indoor pitch in the winter.
"I think it's the right decision for both the city and the Woodstock Soccer Club because we can continue to make sure that kids are playing soccer uninterrupted and we don't have to worry about the financial hardships of carrying the facility."
The club and the city will be forming a transition plan together and they believe members of the general public will not notice a difference in service during this time.
But Director of Parks and Rec Brian Connors says the hours may change once the city takes over.
"What council did indicate was that the operating hours were going to be radically reduced with the city taking this over so the building will not be open as many hours as it is currently."
Connors will also have to present an operating budget for Cowan Park at an upcoming council meeting.
