Unifor Local 636 has been collecting slippers to represent LTC home residents who have passed away with COVID-19 during the pandemic and plan to bring them to Queens Park when the lockdowns are lifted.
WOODSTOCK - The Community Free Table will be collecting slippers this Saturday for Unifor Local 636.
They will be doing this on top of the normal services the Community Free Table provides to the less fortunate in Woodstock every week. Unifor Local 636 has been collecting the slippers to raise awareness of the lives lost in our long term care homes.
They are hoping to collect enough new or gently used slippers to represent every single LTC home resident who has died with COVID-19 during this pandemic. Locally 26 long term care home residents at Maple Manor and peopleCare in Tavistock have died with COVID-19 in just over a month.
You can bring the slippers to the Community Free Table run by Chris Eby this Saturday from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm in Downtown Woodstock. You can also find more information on how to donate by leaving a message with Unifor Local 636 at (519) 537-5942.
Once enough slippers are collected and the lockdowns are over, the union plans to bring the Slippers to Queens Park in Toronto.
