WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council is moving forward with the Norwich Flood Remediation Project.
Council approved a payment of $778,473.27 to Viewcon Construction Limited last night, so they can work on the project throughout the winter months. Council has also voted to take $100,000 in additional funds out of the Reserve for Capital Projects for the job.
City Engineer Harold deHaan says the Norwich Flood Remediation Project is the result of an environmental assessment study focused on preventing flash flooding in the area.
"One of the preferred options to come out of that study was to create a surge pond in the park (Richardson Park) that's along James Street there right against the CN tracks and then connect that surge pond to some storm sewers at the bottom of Water Street."
deHaan tells Heart FM when the construction work should take place.
"Work should probably begin this fall and it will carry out throughout the winter. Because there is some road work it will finish probably in May."
deHaan adds most of the work has to be done by April 1st.
We can expect localized road closures in the area while the construction is underway.
