Council approves submission to Ontario Power Authority for up to 7 new solar projects
Oxford County is looking at the bright side of investing in solar energy production.
This week, councillors approved submitting applications to the Ontario Power Authority for up to 7 new solar projects.
They would see installations on the County Administration Building, Public Health Building, Mill St. EMS Station, on public works garages, and at the Salford Landfill.
Warden Don McKay says not only would the County profit from the investment, it's also about being green. "It speaks towards our sustainability plan, that the energy we're consuming in Oxford County to run the programs for the people can be generated within our own resources."
Should all the projects get the green light, it would be a $1.4-million investment with a projected annual payback of $167,000 for 20-years. That would see the capital cost paid off in just over 9-years.
The move follows the lead of Woodstock, who recently approved 4 solar power projects in the city.
