As the Innerkip Seniors' Apartment looks to expand, the county will vote on whether to declare nearby land surplus or not.
INNERKIP - Oxford County will vote on a by-law to declare a surplus of land on Balsam Street in Innerkip.
The move will allow the County to dispose of the land at the Innerkip Seniors' Apartment and transfer it back to the apartment. Director of Public Works Robert Walton tells Heart FM the move will allow the seniors complex to move forward with their expansion.
"The seniors are going to do this addition and the parking lot they were going to build as part of their revised site plan would have had to be skirted around this. So we went back to them and said we have no use for this land anymore, let's work on getting this declared surplus and work it so you can have your parking lot and not straddle around this old in ground reservoir."
The Innerkip Seniors Apartment is looking to expand from 28 suites to 44 and will have to build a new parking lot. Walton says by declaring the lands surplus it allows them to get rid of a liability of a small piece of property that they have no use for.
