Woodstock is the home to a new and improved shelter for victims of domestic violence. Domestic Abuse Services Oxford applied for the Shelter Enhancement Program receiving $504,000 dollars from the government for renovations. "[The program] helps shelters modernize and we put in a brand new security system, a lot of new lighting, new flooring, better bedrooms," said DASO's Executive Director Rhonda Hendel, "We added a 300 square foot living room addition with a fire place and lots of windows (in left photo), a brand new dining room space, we doubled the size of the kitchen (in right photo), we put in a new handicap bathroom, a brand new group room, new children's play area, an outdoor living space. It just really made pretty much all of the building better." The total costs of the renovation are around $600,000, a number which community donations have helped pay for. The renovations to the 21-bed shelter started back in May and were completed by August.
