Park located within Sally Creek sub division will bear his name.
WOODSTOCK -- Fellow members of the Woodstock Rotary Club, city council and family and friends of the late David Lowes all gathered Monday afternoon to cut the ribbon on David Lowes Memorial Park in the Sally Creek sub division.
Lowes, was a long time Rotary Club member, past president and community supporter who passed away in 2009.
Current Rotary President and City Councillor Ron Fraser says it was an easy to choice to name the park after Lowes, who was a past President of the Woodstock Rotary Club and was also a joint developer of Sally Creek.
"We thought it was fitting that our Rotary Club donate money to the City of Woodstock to the park in particular for the playground equipment, because youth is our future."
Last year, the Rotary Club unanimously supported donating $25,000 to the City for playground equipment for the David Lowes Memorial Park.
Fraser says the opportunity came with an important condition.
"We agreed with Parks and Recreation in the city that we would donate the money. The only thing we asked for was that our name be put on the sign as a sponsor and that the playground equipment be blue and gold, the international colours for Rotary."
Playground equipment for the park was installed last November.
The City's Parks and Recreation staff say other amenities, like an outdoor walking track are also planned. In addition they'll be appealing to the community for other ideas, while Fraser says it's only the beginning for how the space can be used going forward.
"It could also include an winter outdoor rink, it could be a pavilion or a picnic area. We don't know yet, but the community has the input to it which is important."
David Lowes Memorial Park is located on Lakeside Drive in the Sally Creek sub division and is fully accessible for anyone to use.
