INGERSOLL - It is another bad news situation for CAMI in Ingersoll.
The Union, Unifor Local 88 was told that when the plant gets started back up, it will be with less people than originally thought. Local 88 Chairperson, Mike Vanboekel says there are things being done to try and help those that will still be laid off.
"We are working with the company chair and coming up with retirement packages for anybody who wants to retire and/or quit, just to try and incentivize some people to leave. We don't have a lot in that position, but every person that retires saves one person."
Vanboekel adds what it will look like when the plant gets started back up.
"Coming back to work, we were informed middle of November, November 17th, but at a slower line rate. So, there'll be less people required than we had hoped for."
Vanboekel says of the 1,050 employees, 650 will still be on lay off when the plant starts back up. He adds the Union has an action centre set up to help those still laid off with training, resume writing, job postings, and potential schooling.
