A study says Canadian consumers want better protection from international data roaming fees on their cellphones. The study by the Public Interest Advocacy Group says Canadians are insecure about using their wireless devices while travelling. The PIAC study found that 44 per cent of those surveyed said they preferred to leave their device off when travelling. The consumer advocacy group wants the C-R-T-C to require Canadian wireless carriers to notify subscribers via text of the applicable international data roaming rates. PIAC is also recommending that wireless carriers be required to implement a monthly bill limit for data roaming to safeguard consumers against bill shock. Last week a C-R-T-C study revealed Canadians would like to get rid of three-year contracts for cell phones.
