Woodstock Fire Dept. shares internal images of Alberta Ave. fire response.
The house explosion on Alberta Avenue created some dramatic footage.
Last week, the Woodstock Fire Department shared some of their internal images and video of the February 7th fire. The footage shows the initial response as crews arrived at the scene and set up to take on the inferno, which was already fully engulfed.
If you haven't seen them yet, they are more available on the Woodstock Fire Department's Facebook page.
Fire Training Officer Greg Way tells Heart FM why they documented the response. "The videos and the photos are a very good tool, especially when used right with an early arrival. The earlier we can have photo/video documentation for future reference can be important in some cases."
Way says they decided to share that material online, to show the public first hand, the teamwork and hustle involved in responding to a major fire. "It shows the team work and the training that's required to respond in such a quick manner. There's obviously numerous concurrent activities going on at the same time, which to the public may not be apparent. For us, to be able to do that and document that, what our activities are, is a good thing. Fire does spread rapidly and when you see it like that...it's a violent fire, it really demonstrates the importance of having that teamwork."
The footage could also end up becoming evidence in the case against four people who are charged with production of a controlled substance, among other charges.
Woodstock Firefighter Brad Cullen produced one of the more dramatic photos from the Alberta Ave. fire:
