Oxford County Council approved a draft Zero Poverty Plan in Council Chambers earlier today.
OXFORD COUNTY - A draft Zero Poverty Plan has been adopted by Oxford County Council.
The report includes strategies on how to reach zero poverty in our community and how to properly educate the public on this issue.
CAO Peter Crockett says the plan will be modified over the years.
"Obviously it's a long term plan so we've built it in the form of a living document so it can constantly evolve as things change and as we implement different actions."
With approval from council the draft plan will now go out for community consultation. Members of the Zero Poverty Oxford committee will also start to map out the plan and prepare a budget.
Council also looked over a living wage report today, which details how much it costs to live in Oxford.
Crockett says it will help open dialogue with our local business owners and the rest of the community.
"It's part of the solution to zero poverty but it's not the solution to zero poverty. Solving zero poverty is a very complex thing and it will take many different perspectives. Exploring the value of living wage in our community is part of that process and we want to have that dialogue with our community."
