Eastdale Public School is trying to get more kids active, by biking to an from school. On Thursday, the school held a launch of the "Wheeling to School Initiative" where students were shown some of the safest routes to bike to and from school. Vice Principal Tim Coombs says those routes were determined in a partnership with Green Communities Canada, Public Health and the Police, "the school and Green Communities spoke with the city of Woodstock and we decided on what routes be would safest as far as speed limits, traffic, number of buses in that area and so on and we put together some routes that will hopefully go through our neighbourhoods that are kids tend to live". Eastdale is one of 4 schools in Ontario to take part in the pilot project. In joining, the school gets some cycling safety and skill training, along with a new bike rack. The first stage of the project began yesterday with a cycle-about tour of the designated cycling routes.
