You can now charge your electric vehicle at the Quality Hotel and Suites in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - Three new electric electric vehicle chargers were unveiled today at the Quality Hotel and Suites in Woodstock.
Oxford County has installed two Level 2 charging stations and one Level 3 charging station at the hotel parking lot. They were given $350,760 from the Province to complete their EV charging project for the stations in Woodstock and Ingersoll. Deputy Warden and Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch tells Heart FM this is all part of the Future Oxford plan.
"Every step that we can make in changing how we view our energy use is a step in the right direction, so tranisitioning away from fossil fuels to cleaner electric power is a good thing for everybody."
Level 2 charging stations use a 240 volt system and can fully charge a vehicle in about four to eight hours. Level 3 charging stations use a 480 volt system and can charge a vehicle to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.
Parliamentary Assistant to the Manager of Transportation Daiene Vernile was at the ceremony this morning in Woodstock. She says the province will be installing 250 of these charging stations across the province as part of there climate change plan.
"By building these charging stations across the province, including here in Oxford County, we are helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also making it easier for people in Ontario to choose to purchase an electric vehicle."
Ministre of the Environment and Climate Change Glen Murray also issued a statement saying these charging stations are needed in the province.
"Transportation represents thirty five percent of greenhouse gas pollution in Ontario. By investing in building more charging stations in the province, Ontario is making it easier for vehicle owners to choose and drive electric vehicles and fight climate change."
