Wind chill values could reach as cold as minus 30 today.
OXFORD COUNTY - Environment Canada has issued an Extreme Cold Warning early this morning for Brant County and Oxford County.
The warning has since lifted, however, very cold wind chills are expected today. A cold airbases combined winds from the west are producing wind chill values in the minus 25 to 30 range.
A reminder of the risks associated with extreme cold, including frostbite which can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
Peter Hayward, Manager of Health Protection with Oxford County Public Health says there are more people than you realize at risk.
"Anyone who isn't dressed warmly is at risk in cold weather conditions, there's people who are at greater risk, including those who are homeless, outdoor workers, winter sports enthusiasts, infants and seniors."
Heyward offers some tips to help others stay safe during the cold spell.
"It's really important also to make sure your elderly neighbours or your relatives are doing alright as well, and to take a moment to knock on the door to make sure they are doing ok."
An Extreme Cold Warning is only issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
