A couple of social media groups are picking up steam in protest of that proposed landfill in Beachville. Over 300 members have joined the Facebook Group "Stop the Dump from Coming to Ingersoll". It was launched on Sunday, and it growing by the day. Ben Lampkin created the group and tells Heart FM "I think we need to get out there and take the first steps and let the town council know, let the county know, and let the people of Toronto know we're not happy with the garbage coming this way. My objective is to stop the dump from coming to Ingersoll. I don't want it in my backyard for future generations, for my kids." There's also a group calling for a protest march at the end of the month called "Protest the Dump Coming to Ingersoll". It is set to be held on Saturday, March 31st at 2PM on Main St. The "Stop the Dump" rallying cry comes following plans released on Friday from Walker Environment Group that would see 100 trucks of Toronto trash dumped every day in a pit at the Beachville Quarry. Public reaction to the plans were quiet the first few days, local politicians say. That's likely due to the plans leaking out on a Friday, which is the end of the weekly news cycle, when bad-news announcements tend to be released by governments and companies. Another Ingersoll resident John Wolff called Heart FM and voiced some concerns, saying the issue is now on the radar. "I talked to a few people who say Carmeuse Lime, is owned by a US company and they gave these people (Walker) the rights to that land. And they don't care about Ingersoll or our community at all. So it's just big money for these people. Everybody I talk to is concerned and they're really starting to talk about it now." Walker Environmental is hosting a public meeting at the Elm Hurst Inn on Wednesday, April 4th from 2-8PM.
