OXFORD - The Oxford County Water Operations (OCWO) will be preforming the fall watermain flushes starting today.
The county relies 100% on ground water, and with that comes a hard minerals and sediments. These sediments can cause build ups and blockages affecting the quality of drinking water. The OCWO flushes the system twice a year by forcing high speed water through the watermains to remove the sediment. One of the side affects to this process is tap water becoming discoloured.
With the discolouration, it is important to set aside water for drinking and cooking during the flush. It's also a good idea to complete water related tasks like showering or laundry before the designated flushing times. If you experience discoloured water, you should run an outside tap or garden hose to avoid contaminating water softeners or filters in your house.
The maintenance is scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday September 22nd to Sept 22nd to Friday November 7th, starting in Plattsville today. You can find the complete schedule online here.
