The federal government is working to put a little extra cash in the hands of parents.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that families receiving the Canada Child Benefit will receive a boost of up to $1,200 per child under the age of six this year.
Families earning a net income of up to $120,000 will receive four tax-free payments of $300, and qualifying families earning over that amount will get up to four tax-free payments of $150.
The first and second payments will be issued today, with further payments to be made on July 30th and October 29th of this year.
The Prime Minister says the temporary measure will provide a necessary boost to families struggling during the pandemic.
“This immediate investment in our children will help hard-working parents provide for their families by putting more money directly in their pockets. We will continue to make life more affordable for Canadian families, grow the middle class, and build a better country for everyone.”
