A working smoke alarm credited with preventing disastrous situation
A working smoke alarm is being credited for preventing what could have been a disastrous situation.
On Thursday, Woodstock Fire say they received a call about a fire in an apartment complex that started in a ceiling fan.
The fire was extinguished before the fire department arrived and upon further inspection, it was discovered that the blaze did not spread into any of the surrounding walls.
Deputy Chief, Brian Arnold says "this is a prime example of where a working smoke alarm prevented a fire from growing larger and endangering more residents."
Homeowners are being reminded to test their alarms regularly and replace them every 10 years.
