The Woodstock Fire Department is providing you with a few safety tips ahead of tonight's Super Bowl.
WOODSTOCK - Super Bowl parties will be happening tonight.
People will be getting ready for the Super Bowl and preparing dishes for company.
Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says to look while you cook.
"Most people get distracted when they have a lot of people in the home for an activity like this, or a special occasion. It's very easy to get distracted by the television, by the games going on, activities, talking to friends."
They say to pay attention while you're cooking and even have a friend in the kitchen to keep you from getting distracted.
She adds to prepare food ahead of time, order out or make sure you've done the cooking before people come over.
Woods says fires are more likely to occur when you're cooking at higher temperatures.
"If you're cooking French fries or deep fried anything, use one of the deep fat fryers that are temperature controlled with the safety attached to it. It's a little bit more difficult when you're using the open stove top to use grease for French fries, so just be mindful of those."
Cooking fires are the number one cause of fires in homes across Canada.
She says to also keep a clean area where you're cooking, as things do have a tendency to spill over.
