WOODSTOCK - As we approach the Diwali festival, the City of Woodstock are reminding residents of the ban on fireworks
Council approved a by-law in 2023 that prohibits the sale and discharge of consumer fireworks within city limits. Those setting off fireworks will receive a fine of $400, and the fine increases to $1,000 for selling fireworks.
The reasoning resulted from a growing number of complaints. Woodstock Police along with the Fire Department will be responding to any concerns.
The City is optimistic that banning fireworks will reduce the risk of fires, injuries, property damage, noise complaints, and air pollution. Banning personal fireworks displays also reduces the negative impact on pets, wildlife, and their habitats.
Those with further questions or if you see or hear someone setting off fireworks are asked to contact the Woodstock Police Service non-emergency line at 519-421-2800, extension 9.
