The latest framework for police preparedness for Aboriginal Critical Incidents for 2016 has been released.
ONTARIO - The latest framework for police preparedness for Aboriginal Critical Incidents for 2016 has been released.
Superintendent Paul Mackey says the critical policy framework acts as a guide for police on how to respond to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous issue-related conflicts.
"Members of the OPP have embraced the Framework and have put it into practice for more than ten years. The Framework continues to serve our organization very well and enhances our already positive dialogues and relationships with our various Indigenous community partners and leaders."
The basis of the framework includes resolving conflict and managing crisis in a consistent manner, while minimizing the use of force and respecting and protecting the rights of all parties.
Over the past year the framework was applied in 95 incidents, including protests and both Indigenous and non-Indigenous activities.
Commissioner J.V.N. (Vince) Hawkes encourages people to check it out.
"To contribute to the spirit of reconciliation, we welcome the people of Ontario and members of its Indigenous communities to read the Annual Report and the Framework itself. We hope it furthers open discussion on our rationale while demonstrating another way the OPP supports community safety."
