The City hopes to start work at the Woodstock Police Service headquarters very soon.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Department is getting a facelift.
Woodstock City Council has given the green light for a major project. Mayor of Woodstock, Trevor Birtch, says some major work will be done to the Police Station. "In 2015 council approved a capital budget for an addition and a renovation of the existing police facility. Through the hard work this year, the design, and all of the testing required we will make sure we do what is right. We now have a successful bidder on that project and shovels will be in the ground as soon as possible."
This will be a multi-million dollar upgrade, and Mayor Birtch says this project will bring all branches of the force back together. "The new addition would put the police department back into one unit again. We've had our detective unit and special forces off-site so this will centralize everyone again and also give a few more modern touches to the building."
Mayor Birtch explains how the partnership between City Hall and the Police Service has been through the planning stages. "It's really great the way that the police force has come forward with ideas for the committee, and the new Chief and Deputy Chief have been very helpful all the way along. The citizens of Woodstock are well served by everyone in the police department and this new addition and renovation is something we can all be proud of."
