WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police and the OPP are still collecting any and all weapons during their gun amnesty this month.
You can turn in your old guns, knives or other weapons without getting arrested or charged. Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says they have been able to take at least one weapon off the street.
"We have had one long gun turned in so far. I know some people have older guns and they don't know what to do with them, so just call the police and we will come and prove them safe, bring them into the station and get rid of them for you.
VanLeeuwen explains what they mean by amnesty.
"So amnesty means you are free from Criminal Code charges, so if you have a weapon that is illegal in the Criminal Code of Canada, we are not going to charge you if it is an illegal weapon or firearm."
You can take advantage of the amnesty by calling the Woodstock Police or your local OPP detachment. VanLeeuwen says one thing they definitely do not want you to do is bring the weapons directly to the detachment.
