Habitat for Humanity officially starts construction on two housing sites Thursday.
WOODSTOCK- Two families are a step closer towards recieving new homes.
Habitat for Humanity officially breaks ground Thursday on two housing sites in Woodstock. "We are going to be digging the foundation and then after that it will move pretty quickly, they'll start to pour the footings and they'll get the basement going sometime early next week,"said Habitat for Humanity Chair Andrew Moir.
Each family is required to put in 500 volunteer hours into the houses as part of their agreement.
Moir said the families can't wait to get started. "You know it's one thing to talk about it in a theoretical excercise but its really something else when you start seeing the foundation going in and be able to see the flooring and walls going up, it makes the project much more of a reality for them, and they'll start to realize that these are their homes that are being built and someday they are going to move into them, and it will be a place they can call their own."
Moir says if there are no weather delays he expects the houses to be move-in ready by early January.
Volunteers will take part in various aspects of the build from framing to painting. Moir adds that they are always looking for volunteers and those interested can contact them via their website HERE.
