A pair of families are one step closer to home ownership thanks to Habitat for Humanity.
WOODSTOCK -- By the end of October, Woodstock will have two new Habitat for Humanity homes.
Ground was officially broken Wednesday on the two homes located on Main Street in the City.
Construction Manager for Habitat for Humanity George DeVlugt says each home was specially designed for his build to accommodate a smaller lot size.
"Two very modest two story homes. Each floor is about 500 square feet so they have a total of 1000 square feet. The basements are unfinished. One is a two bedroom for the single mother and her son, the other is a four bedroom for the family of four."
Chair of the Steering Committee in Woodstock Drew Moyer says volunteer support has been incredible.
"Not only for people to come in and join at the committee level, but everywhere we go and we talk about the project people just automatically say Oh I'd love to get out and work on that project, I'd love to be involved in any which way I can, so it's a really interesting group to be a part of when people are excited about a project like this and excited to volunteer for it."
Moyer says while work will start on the sites now, it wont look like an actual build site until the middle of June with the hopes of completion near the middle of October.
Home recipient Michelle Lusk says she's excited to start paying off her 500 hours of labour on the build.
"It means an opportunity to grow forward with my family and provide a stable house for my son."
Lusk's son Damion says he's excited to have his own room which he can decorate the way he wants.
