Students raise $2500 for the Murray family through head shaving fundraiser
Hair was flying at Harrisfield Public School Thursday in support of the Murray family.
The Murray's were hit hard earlier this month when their wife and mother Doretta passed away at a time when the family was also supporting their four year old child battling cancer.
The principal, vice principal and secretary all shaved their heads after students raised $2500 for the family.
Principal Cliff Williams says they collected change from the students for one week.
"We had three buckets out, one for myself, one for the vice principal Warren Zavarella, one for the secretary Diana Figg and we had it out there and the students could chose where they put it and it was just so exciting to see the kids coming in an supporting in a way that they knew they could. Just bringing in their money and putting it into different things."
Scott Murray says today's event was very humbling. "We're learning to accept rather than being the ones that are always giving. That's always been our nature through pastoring, through coaching, and everything Doretta has been involved with here at the school. It's always been pouring our lives out into others and so when the tragedy hits it's people pouring back into us and so learning to accept that has been a little bit difficult but today is a good turning step in that."
Today would have been Doretta Murray's 32nd birthday.
