Local Medical Officer of Health welcomes the news of children between 12-15 being eligible for the Pfizer vaccine. She says the cohort could be added to the Provincial rollout as early as next month.
CANADA - Children between the ages of 12 to 15 are now eligible for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
Health Canada shared the news today. A recent clinical trial of over 22 hundred kids in America proved the vaccine was effective for children.
Local Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Joyce Lock says this is welcoming news.
"It's absolutely great news, it was expected this would happen, there was no reason for the vaccine not to be suitable in this younger age bracket but we did need to wait for the research to be done before we could be sure."
Dr. Lock says we could see children being vaccinated in the near future.
"I expect the Province is now taking this into consideration as it plans the future rollout of the vaccine program within our province. We are quite excited that we are seeing that by the end of this month, we are hopefully going to be moving down rapidly in age brackets, perhaps by the end of the month we will be doing everyone over the age of 18. I suspect that not long thereafter, the Province will start to aim for that younger age cohort as well and include those in the vaccine rollout."
