OXFORD/ELGIN - Southwestern Public Health is warning the public about a potent opioid circulating in the community.
They have anecdotal evidence of an off yellow in colour drug that is being sold as Fentanyl.
The Health Unit is reminding everyone to be cautious and offers these tips in the case of an overdose:
- Call 911
- Give naloxone if an opioid overdose is suspected, it may take more than one dose
- Stay with and assist the person until paramedics arrive.
- The person should go to the hospital with the paramedics for further treatment.
If you use substances:
- Don't use alone.
- Avoid mixing substances.
- Start with a small amount first.
- Carry a naloxone kit.
