All of the proceeds will support VON Sakura House.
WOODSTOCK - Registration is open for the 22nd annual Hike for Hospice.
The event will take over Roth Park on Saturday September 21st this year.
Chelsea Stephens, the Fund Development Coordinator for VON Oxford and VON Sakura House, says registration opens at 9:00 a.m., there will be a Tribute Ceremony at 10:00 a.m., and the walk will get underway at 10:30 a.m.
"There are three different hike lengths: 1km, 5km, and 8km. It starts at 9:00 a.m. and there will also be a children's tent made by Happy Hippo and a grief tent with some councillors this year which is a new addition."
The Sweaburg Lions Club will also serve a barbeque lunch at 11:30 a.m.
All of the proceeds will be going to Sakura House, which is the only 10-bed residential hospice here in Oxford County. Stephens says it relies on donations from the public.
"So nurses, doctors, and other general healthcare costs are covered. But anything like hydro, groceries, and our roof (which we're repairing right now) are all things that we cover through fundraising."
Over 100 people volunteer at Sakura House, to make sure that its guests are comfortable during their stay and to help their family members during their final days with their loved ones. Sakura House had a total of 276 patients last year alone.
Those interested in participating in the Hike for Hospice can sign up online here to start fundraising.
Chelsea Stephens stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Thursday September 5th. You can listen to the full interview below:
