Members of the Woodstock Fire Department want everyone to have a safety and happy holiday season.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Fire Department has put out a Holiday Fire Safety Challenge to the community.
They want you to make a fire escape plan and check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms this holiday season. Make sure you catch it on camera, email the photo or video to fire@cityofwoodstock.ca or tag them on Facebook or Twitter in order to enter into a draw to win a special prize pack.
Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says there's a lot of handy items included.
"We've got a bag full of goodies! We've got a hat, some fire safety tools to help you around the house, water bottles, just some fun stuff everybody would like to have I'm sure."
They are preparing for two prize draws at this point, one on December 16th and another on December 22nd. More prizes could be added depending on the number of entries.
Woods explains why the department decided to start the challenge on Monday.
"We certainly would like everybody to be fire safe for the holidays. Fires do spike in the month of December, during the holiday season so we're just trying to make sure everybody has a happy and fire safe holiday."
