Embro is bracing for a stampede of wiener dogs as Wienerfest returns for another year
EMBRO - Embro will be welcoming hundreds of dachshunds to the community centre for WienerFest.
President and Executive Coordinator for the festival, Linda Collier says the whole things started from a love for all things wiener dog.
"It is actually started as a picnic in Springbank park in London. A group of us who didn't have children wanted to get together and talk about our dogs. That's how we started out, about 20 people and 25 dogs. It just grew from there to this great big thing we have now."
In 2013 over 6,000 people and 1,000 dogs attended.
The day features lots to do including the wiener races, costumer contest, and more. There are even events for 'wiener-wannabes.'
Collier says they have a special premiere planned as well.
"We have got the Ontario movie premiere of The Wiener Takes All, which is a very popular movie about the dachshunds racing in the world, especially in the States right now."
Doxin diehards and their families, as well as people just wanting to check out the large gathering of wiener dogs are welcome to come out.
"It's not just about the dogs. It is for the dog lovers but it is a whole family event where you can take your dog with you. Basically it is like a fair."
It is a free event on Saturday, June 25th at the Embro Community Centre starting a 9 a.m., but donations will be accepted for Tiny Paws Rescue.
