Police say a 52 year old man was four times over the legal limit Sunday night on a joy ride that included multiple collisions and erratic driving on the 401.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police arrested a 52 year old man who was four times over the legal limit on Sunday night.
Officers were responding to multiple 9-1-1 calls about a driver who fled the scene from several collisions on Sunday. The man apparently first collided with a vehicle at the traffic lights on Parkinson Road. He then took off, driving over the median and down the wrong side of Norwich Ave for about half a kilometer.
The vehicle tried to make a wide turn onto the westbound on-ramp to the 401 and hit a pedestrian crossing pole and guard rail. That didn't stop the driver through who made it onto the highway, swerving across all three lanes of traffic.
The vehicle then drove along the median shoulder for a distance before colliding against the centre median wall and coming to a rest.
The 52 year old was charged with impaired driving and two counts of failure to stop after an accident and
Woodstock Police would like to thank all of the alert drivers and witnesses for quickly calling 9-1- 1 to report the dangerous driving. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please contact police safely by pulling over or with hands free calling features.
