Oxford County staff will research ways we can increase the residential land density in Oxford and report back to County Council next year.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County is going to work toward increasing residential density in our urban areas.
During yesterday's meeting, County Council directed staff to start researching some ways we can utilize the land we already have to create more housing.
Warden Marcus Ryan says staff will bring proposed implementation measures back to council next year.
"The housing shortage that we have is a crisis. There are big parts we need to work towards down the road, but in the short term we need to take action as well. So there are three phases and some of them we will see in early 2024, others in the middle of 2024, and some probably toward the end of next year."
Ryan says we're in desperate need of more affordable housing in Oxford.
"People may want the $800,000 or $900,000 single-family home but the reality is now a lot of people just can't afford that yet. So in the meantime, they still need somewhere to live so we're talking one or two-bedroom apartments or townhomes."
