Ingersoll Town Council is looking at options when it comes to where to place the new multi-use recreational facility.
INGERSOLL - Ingersoll is making steps to bring a new multi-use facility to the town.
With the current arena nearing the end of its life, council is discussing a new multi-use facility according to CAO of Ingersoll, William Tigert. "We have identified a new multi-use facility in our strategic priorities and one of the steps in that process is trying to identify sites and then try to make an ultimate determination of where the best site would be. There has been conversation on whether or not Victoria Park would be a suitable site to actually be in the mix for consideration."
Tigert says the current downtown arena doesn't meet the need of the community anymore. "The facility itself was built in the late 50's. A number of key capital components would be required over the next 10 years to keep the facility working. Council has made the decision that they are going to look to make a new facility."
On Monday Ingersoll Town Council was presented with the report. Tigert says they still have a lot to discuss before moving forward. "The council has appointed a committee to look at the community needs assessment and we hope that in 2016 we can get far enough down the road to do some preliminary architectural design concepts. In the discussions with council we are looking at probably in the 5-8 year range for start and finish."
Victoria Park is being considered because there is enough room for the proposed 9 000 square foot facility while also providing space for parking.
