The Town of Ingersoll is going to pay a fine of $27,500 after an employee was injured while putting away last year's Christmas decorations.
INGERSOLL - The Town of Ingersoll is taking responsibility after one of their staff members was injured on the job.
An employee for the Parks Department fractured their leg in January while they were putting away last year's Christmas displays.
Their coworkers were taking down the decorations and bringing them to the employee on a trailer. The employee would then lean the decorations against a wall and hold them in place, but they became unstable and pinned the employee to the ground.
The Occupation Health and Safety Act says it was the town's responsibility to make sure all materials and articles are safely secured.
Ingersoll pled guilty and now has to pay a fine of $27,500 plus a victim surcharge. They also cooperated with the Ministry of Labour's investigation, implementing all of their recommendations to make sure this doesn't happen again.
