This week's Woodstock City Council agenda includes the final tax rate for 2024 and the deal that was reached with CUPE Local 1146.
WOODSTOCK - We have the final tax rate for Woodstock residents.
Mayor Jerry Acchione says it's an increase of 8.42 percent and it will be presented to council during this Thursday's City Council meeting.
"We've got the combined tax rate now with the City and the County. It looks like it's going to be about $356.92 for the average household."
This also takes the school board budget into account.
Mayor Acchione says the tax increase is hard to swallow in this fiscally challenging climate but the city, the county, and the school boards have to maintain services at the end of the day.
Woodstock City Council is also about to sign off on the deal that was reached with CUPE Local 1146.
The union represents outdoor staff members in the public works department including waste collection and parks and rec staff.
Mayor Acchione says the deal includes a pay raise for them.
"There are some increases. It's a 3.9 percent increase for this year and 3.5 percent for 2025 and 2026."
The deal was ratified by the union on April 9th.
This Thursday's City Council meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. and it will be livestreamed on the City of Woodstock YouTube page. You can also find the meeting agenda online here.
During his interview with Dan and Marcie this morning, Mayor Acchione also discussed the following:
- The importance of supporting the local Smile Cookie campaign at Tim Horton's locations.
- Arbour Day tree planting events on Friday and Saturday.
- The two delegations on the schedule for this week's council meeting. One from the Woodstock Terry Fox Run and the other from the Woodstock Fair.
