He talked about the recent cyber attack and the highlights from yesterday's Oxford County Council meeting.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Warden of Oxford County has provided us with some further insight into the recent cyber attack.
It was recently revealed that the personal information of past and present Oxford County employees could have been compromised in this leak, that was first reported to the public on September 15th.
In an interview on the Heart FM Morning Show, Warden Marcus Ryan said thousands of people could be affected.
"There's almost 1,000 current county employees. By the time you add in the people who have retired, quit or left over the past five, ten, or 15 years you get close to 4,000 people who may have had their information leaked."
The past employees will receive a letter in the mail to the last known address on file. If that address has changed, they can update that information online here.
Oxford County has hired cyber security experts to assist in this investigation and help make sure this doesn't happen again. Warden Ryan said this could take months to complete.
"It's not going to be visible to everyone in the public all of the time, but this is not going to be a quick and done process."
He added that the county is doing everything it can to keep people informed, while also protecting the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
"There is a balance between how much we can tell you so you can protect yourself, and how much do we protect the investigation so we can protect you. We are literally talking about that all day every day."
Warden Ryan has attended meetings on the matter every single day since finding out about the attack.
"I have been absolutely impressed by the quality of our staffs response to this. Every question they could anticipate a staff member or resident could have and every concern, they were on it. They identified it, they were thinking through what they need to do, what we could we do to support them and what other resources could we get to do that better. I have left every single one of those meetings as the Warden knowing that we're doing everything we can and I'm absolutely confident."
He also apologized to all of those who have been affected this.
"A bad thing has happened and as the Warden of Oxford, I am sorry that has happened to people. I can assure them as well that have been, are, and will continue to do everything we can to support them."
During his interview this morning, Warden Ryan also talked about some of the highlights from yesterday's Oxford County Council meeting. Council looked over the results of the 2026 Budget Survey, and discussed a new maintained trail that will be along a former railway corridor between Norwich and Tillsonburg.
With National Day for Truth and Reconciliation coming up on Tuesday September 30th, Warden Ryan also talked about the special memorial that's on display in the Oxford County Administration Building. It's called The Long Road Back: Bringing Percy Home and it will be on display in the main lobby until October 6th.
