A motion was passed on Monday Night to end Junior Kindergarten at LDCSB French Immersion Schools starting in September 2018.
WOODSTOCK - Junior Kindergarten will no longer be offered at French Immersion schools in the London District Catholic School Board.
The LDCSB passed a motion on Monday night to eliminate Junior Kindergarten entry at French Immersion elementary schools at capacity starting in September 2018.
The move will impact four Elementary schools in the board including Holy Family in Woodstock. The other schools include St. John's and St. Anthony's in London and St. Anne's in St. Thomas.
Moving forward the French Immersion program will begin with Senior Kindergarten at the four schools starting next September. A province-wide shortage of qualified French-speaking teachers has placed severe strain on the French Immersion program with regards to staffing capacity.
Superintendent of Education Vince Romeo explains why they made this decision.
"The popularity of French Immersion forced us to find a way that would address our physical and staffing capacities while maintaining the high quality of the program our families expect. This decision also aligns the start of our French Immersion program with most of the other school boards in the province."
Parents of children entering Junior Kindergarten will register at their home school and may then choose to enrol in the French Immersion program at one of the four schools for Senior Kindergarten.
