Joint Statement on Public Gatherings

The City of Stratford, Huron Perth Public Health and Stratford Police have issued a joint statement on public gatherings, urging residents to follow the Provincial guidelines.

STRATFORD - The City of Stratford, Huron Perth Public Health and Stratford Police have issued a joint statement on public gatherings, urging residents to follow the Provincial guidelines.

Effective Saturday the Stay-At-Home order prohibits gatherings with anyone outside your immediate household. Exceptions are made if you live alone, in which case you can team up with one other family.

The order states you must limit contact to only members of your household, stay at least two metres apart from everyone else and wear a mask or face covering during permitted events such as a wedding, funeral or religious service, rite or ceremony.

In the joint statement, the City, Public Health and Police encourages citizens to be diligent in following the emergency order, as well as the guidance of our public health officials.

You can read the full statement below:

While they may be inconvenient and difficult, these measures are intended to keep people safe, and reduce the transmission of COVID-19 in our communities. We also recognize the reality of the third wave of COVID-19 that we are in, and the need to support our hospital and primary care partners as well as everyone who depends on them.

We are aware of a public assembly being planned for this weekend in Stratford. City and police officials have reached out to the organizers in an effort to underscore the importance of respecting the Stay-at-Home order and its restrictions.

The Stratford Police Service continues to follow an education-first approach to the provincial emergency order, but will use enforcement, where necessary, to ensure public safety.

Thank you, everyone, for your continued co-operation and vigilance during these challenging times.

Our communities have worked hard to keep local case numbers as low as possible, and continuing to work together is how we will get out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
