July's Heat On The Cool Side Compared To Previous Years

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County continues to ride the roller coaster effect when it comes to weather patterns for the summer of 2015.

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County continues to ride the roller coaster effect when it comes to weather patterns for the summer of 2015.  With consecutive days of plus 30 degree temperatures it has left many seeking refuge in pools or shady spots but the hot humid weather may be ending soon.  Warning Preparedness Meteorologist for Environment Canada, Peter Kimbell, explains how July faired from previous years and what to expect heading into August.

"July, the mean temperature so far is about 20 degrees that compares with a normal mean temperature for the month of July with 20.8 degrees.  We've actually been a little bit on the cool side so far in July after that, the last day of July was a bit cooler still.  Beginning the 1st of August we're in a couple days of very warm weather but we're back to slightly cooler than average by the weekend."

Kimbell looks into the forecast for August and those that like it cooler will be satisfied.

"The signal is not strong for warmer than normal temperature nor below normal temperatures so it could very well be a 'goldilocks' August - not too warm, not too cold, just about right."  Temperatures looking into the fall are predicted to be near normal for the area that are gathered from computer models and make it difficult to forecast anything past the fall at this time.

The system that dominated much of the summer will return for the upcoming month and Kimbell forecasts how the rainfall amounts will be for the final full month of summer.

"The signal of course gets weaker and weaker as we look forward in time, right now it is near normal precipitation.  It is difficult to forecast at the best of times, but in summer time when it is convective localized it can vary so hugely, and across a small area.  We run many different models and average them all out and they all are basically saying near normal."  It is looking to be a good season for crop growth as more rain will be in the forecast for August and looking ahead to harvest.
