Report points to future need for employment land in Ingersoll, but Mayor is concerned about servicing

The Town of Ingersoll needs to have a stock of 120 acres of industrial land.

According to a report released to County Council Wednesday, both Ingersoll and Woodstock could face a shortage of employment land over the next 20 years if steps aren't taken to acquire additional land.  The Oxford County Population, Household and Employment Forecasts and Employment Lands Study indicated Woodstock will need to acquire 89 acres of employment land and Ingersoll, up to 161 acres to prevent running out in 20-years, due to the forecasted need. 

Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey says acquiring the land is one thing, "Servicing it is another.  The town really has to look close at the costs of servicing.  Once we look at that and once we service that property, we have to say, 'Is it saleable?'.  There is a lot of land available right now along the 401 corridor so we really have to watch our marketability, and putting dollars into land that would sit for an awfully long time."

Ingersoll has 80 acres currently available that is serviced fronting Clarke St.

But Comiskey agrees they should have more, "The report says we should have available to us 100-150-acres...and that's actually kind of what we're looking at, so down the road we have that availability upon industries coming forward."

The report suggests most of the County's significant growth will take place between 2016 and 2021, with the rate of growth slowing post 2021, due to the aging of the labour force.
