The Woodingford Lodge was awarded with the Best Practice Spotlight Organization designation, and are now among the 22 long-term care residences to be selected for the designation by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County's Woodingford Lodge received the Best Practice Spotlight Organization.
They are now among the 22 long-term care residences to be selected for the designation by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario.
Registered Practical Nurse and Project Nurse, Judy Esseltine says it was very rewarding to receive the award.
"Very rewarding. It was a great reward and there was a lot of work put into this by all staff and I think we were very deserving of the reward we got."
The long-term health care facility achieved BPSO designation after choosing to use best practice guidelines in three areas: person and family centred care, preventing and addressing abuse and neglect of older adults and assessment and management of pain.
The announcement comes after a three year process. The Woodingford Lodge has three sites throughout the County, including one in Woodstock.
After receiving the designation, Esseltine says it not only shows the strong relationships they have with their residents, but it shows the community that they implement some of the best practices when it comes to long-term care at their facility.
"I think it really provides reassurance and strengthening of relationships for the residents, it's very rewarding for our staff to be more involved with the resident and really get to know their residents, personally. It's very reassuring, I think, for the community at large, especially those who are seeking long term care in the future. It gives that reassurance that we are providing best practice and evidence-based practice in our daily clinical practice."
The designation is a dynamic partnership that focuses on making a positive impact on resident care through the systematic implementation of evidence-based best practices.
They also became the Best Practice Champions after developing and training more than 20% of their staff across all disciplines.
